00 - May

“Miss McArthur, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t struggle. Those handcuffs are stronger than you are.”

“Bite me, asshole.”

The woman lurched forward against the cold steel table, the cuffs dug into her wrists as she tried in vain to free herself. From the shadows stepped a young man in a blue jumpsuit, the source of the voice.

“You’re only making this harder on yourself. All we want is information.”

“You’re the one making this hard, you British prick.”

“My, you certainly do like that word. I find it rather crass.” He picked a bit of fuzz from his clothing. “Unbecoming of a lady as beautiful as yourself.” He smirked.

“Your men kidnap me from my home, blindfold me, take me to god knows where, and then question me for days. And you’re surprised I’m pissed off?”

“No, that bit was to be expected. What wasn’t expected was your fierce devotion to a group of teenagers you met five years ago, and only knew for the span of a few months. Why? Why protect them, Miss McArthur?”

She spit in his direction. “Because people like you can’t have anything good in store for them. I know what you are, you’re villains. In every sense of the word. I’d never give them up to you.”

He frowned at the spatter of saliva that landed on the table in front of him.

“You have it all wrong. We are not the enemy. In fact, we are the true heroes here.”

“Bullshit.”

He sighed, running his fingers through his spiky brown hair.

“If my words can’t convince you, maybe this can.”

He pulled a remote from his pocket and pressed a button. On the wall, a metal covering slid open revealing a one way mirror to an adjacent room.

She gasped. “Shawn!”

A man sat in a chair, bound, blindfolded, and gagged. Next to him was a blonde woman in a grey jumpsuit like the one her captor wore.

The young man spoke into the intercom, “You may begin.”

The woman walked over to a table and grabbed a short metal pole, with the press of a button the end started to crackle with electricity.

“Please! Don’t hurt him!” May pleaded.

“Oh, we’re past that. This is your punishment for not cooperating with us.”

Tears welled in her eyes as she watched the woman jab the device into Sean’s torso, he let out a muffled scream as his body convulsed.

“Please! Hurt me instead but not him!”

The man knelt down to be at eye level, “Only if you tell us what we want to know, my dear. Then you’ll both be free to go, as previously stated.”

She hung her head in shame. “Fine, I’ll tell you everything.”

He smiled. “I’m glad you’ve seen reason.”

He turned back to the intercom, “You may stop, for now.”

The blonde woman seemed disappointed, but obeyed the order. She could see Sean was breathing raggedly, but was alive.

“Now madam, it is time for you to play your part.”

“Where do I begin?” She said, defeated.

“The night of August 5th, 2010. The night you first met the Peacekeepers.”

“... fine, I’ll do it.”
